Tenth Idenfication

Government:

Government was extremely important to the time period of
1890s. Government was primarily known for
being the final decision maker, being the people's voices in some countries, the base of the country.
Government is important to the time period of 1890sin a couple of
ways. One such way Government is important to the time period is because
they are the base of the country, no matter what country you are in. Another way government is important is because they are the voice for the people in some countries. Government ties into Zinn's writings because no matter what type of writing about history, government is always the same. The only difference is the way it is described. In the text book, it is said how it would be viewed in an optimistic way of the US. Zinn's writings questions how the people connect with the government. "...would not a foreign adventure deflect some of the rebellious energy that went into strikes and protest movements toward an external enemy? Would it not unite people with government, with the armed forces, instead of against them?" Zinn's writing definitely the book, and the book basically talks and describes the government.

Ninth Identification

United State of America:

USA was extremely important to the time period of
1890s. USA was primarily known for taking away independence so that the country can stay if not get better than the way it was, for turning their backs on the Philippines, and for being the land of opportunity. USA is important to the time period of 1890s in a couple of ways. One such way USA is important to the time period is because it took away much of different countries independence. Another way USA is important is because
it made loop holes to have more expansion. The way that USA ties into Zinn's writings is because in the textbook, they make it sound like USA didn't do too bad of things, and that it was for the greater good. Well, not necessarily. The US fired 500 pound shells at the Philippines. There were so many dead bodies, that the US used the bodies to defend themselves at Pasig River.

Eighth Identification

Protectorate:

Protectorate was extremely important to the time period of
1890s. Protectorate was primarily known for
independent countries that are not independent, when a country tells another country they are independent but they don't have the authorized power, another way of making more expansion.
Protectorate is important to the time period of 1890s in a couple of
ways. One such way Protectorate is important to the time period is because
It basically told countries that they were independent but they weren't. Another way protectorate is important is because this  was just another loop hole for people to participate in expansion. Protectorate ties into Zinn's writings because in the book, there is only one quote that describes the paragraph and more, and that is, "The Americans have made our country free. Free as a dog on a leash." In Zinn's writings, this is evident throughout the whole entire piece. When Emilio was trying to get Filipino independence, the protectorate didn't let him, because it limits much of their power. In fact, it seems like their power isn't even split in half with the United States.

Seventh Idenfication

Independence:

Independence was extremely important to the time period of
1890s. Independence was primarily known forletting people be who they want to be, freedom from the countries in power, and also something that countries were dying just to get it. Independence is important to the time period of 1890s in a couple of ways. One such way Independence is important to the time period is because it let people be what they wanted to be, and take off the shackles of imprisonment. Another way independence is important is because people were dying just to get this. The way that this ties into Zinn's writings is because in the book, they just say how people were fighting for independence and why. In Zinn, they showed how each side felt, and how the Philippines were being attacked every time they tried to seek independence. This is true, after the Philippines got rid of the Spanish, the US attacked them and took away their independence.

Sixth Identification

Commander George Dewey:

Commander George Dewey was extremely important to the time period of
1898. Dewey was primarily known for being the commander of the Pacific Ocean, taking out many Philippines, and a commander trying to prevent a war.
Dewey is important to the time period of 1898 in a couple of
ways. One such way Dewey is important to the time period is because
he took out many Philippines. This though, was not a good thing. Another way Dewey is important is because
he was a commander trying to prevent a war. The way that Dewey ties into Zinn's writings is because he wasn't that great of a commander. In the book, he said that he sank an entire squadron of people at Manila Bay. In Zinn's writings, the Americans fired 500 pound shells into the Bay, and there were so many dead body's that was their defense. How great was America then?

Fifth Identification

Emilio Aguinaldo:

Emilio Aguinaldo was extremely important to the time period of
early 1900s. Emilio was primarily known for
gaining Manila from the Spanish, getting control of Philippine islands, he turned to the dark side.
Emilio is important to the time period of the early 1900s in a couple of
ways. One such way Emilio is important to the time period is because
He gained Manila for the United States. Another way Emilio is important is because
He turned to the dark side. By this, I mean that Emilio was before a Philippine fighting for independence, and once the US gained that land, Emilio turned his back and fought against America. Emilio ties into Zinn's writings because he was the man that revolted against the Spanish and the Americans, right? In the book, they only explain that he stole Manila from them, and then turned his back on the US. In Zinn's writings, he was the leader of a social group, and when him and his social group went up against high security United States people, he lost. The US had forgotten that he had also been fighting for Filipino Independence.

Fourth Idenfication

Maine:

The Maine was extremely important to the time period of the early 1900s. The Maine was primarily known for being a symbolical ship for Cubans, for killing over 200 people, and the explosion source unknown. The Maine is important to the time period of the early 1900s in a couple of ways. One such way The Maine is important to the time period is because it was a famous explosion that killed over 200 people. Another way The Maine is important is because it was a symbolic ship for the Cubans. Zinn's writings tie into The Maine because in the book, they only say that the Maine was blown up and killed 260 men, but stating anything that was important about it. In Zinn's writings, they say that it is a symbolic ship of Cuban events, which could lead to some clues to who or what and why someone would have the intentions of blowing it up. Zinn thought that this was a symbolic ship for the Americans, in the sense of American interest in Cuba. Most progressivists were feeling bad for the Cubans, which is why most felt for Cuba. The industrialists on the other hand were investing in Cuba, which is why they felt bad for Cuba, otherwise chances are, they could probably careless.
