First Identification

Matthew C. Perry:
Mathew C. Perry was extremely important to the time period of
1850s. Perry was primarily known for sailing into Tokyo Bay, forcing the Japanese to give the US trading rights, and also for making them resentful for having very powerful guns .
Perry is important to the time period of the 1850s in a couple of ways. One such way Perry is important to the time period is because he forced the Japanese into giving the US trading rights. Another way Perry is important is because he made the Japanese realize their own weaknesses. The way that Perry compares to the readings of Zinn's writings it that Perry did not only present a letter to the Japanese for trading rights, they also used the warships on the Japanese. In the book, it only says that Perry brought the letter, and the Japanese were in awe by in awe by the weapons that the Americans brought; nowhere does it say that the Americans were very intent on using these weapons to forced the Japanese to give them trading rights.
