Second Identification

Hawaii:

Hawaii was extremely important to the time period of
1890s. Hawaii was primarily known for
the state that was going to be annexed, being very beautiful, and also the best state for expansion.
Hawaii is important to the time period of 1890s in a couple of
ways. One such way Hawaii is important to the time period is because many people wanted it to be annexed, because this was the time period of expansion. Another way Hawaii is important is because it was going to be used as a military base. This compares to Zinn's writings because in the book, they talk about how the people of Hawaii were against Hawaii being annexed, because they were basically getting their home taken over by people who came to crash the party. In Zinn's writings, there were people who were against this, such as the Knights of Labor and AFL. These labor unions felt sympathetic for the Cubans, and during the meeting in Zinn's piece, Samuel Gompers and the rest of AFL convinced the US to not intervene in 1897. In the book, they don't say what the people of the United State thought, only what the government thinks what is right for the people.
